Press Release #15, December 2008
Anticipation announces the winner of the Hugo base design competition.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Anticipation is pleased to announce that Dave Howell has won the competition
to design the 2009 Hugo Award statue base. Dave Howell is an artist and fan
based in Seattle and has attended Worldcons since 2001, where one could see
his parking stickers, part of his “Working Wizard” art project.
Dave Howell’s winning Hugo base design will be unveiled at Anticipation’s
Hugo Awards Ceremony on Saturday, August 8 at the Palais des congres.
Worldcons have often held an open competition for the design of its Hugo
bases. Anticipation solicited artists and designers to design a base worthy
of the Hugo Award instructing the designers to make the base an integral
part of the design of the Hugo while incorporating an aspect relating to
Montreal or Canada.
As winner of the competition, Dave Howell will receive a free, full
attending membership for Anticipation and will introduce this year’s Hugo
base design at it’s unveiling at the Hugo Awards Ceremony.
