Tours

As they have done with previous Worldcons, fellow fans Val & Ron Ontel, and Ken Smookler have put together some post-con sightseeing tours for Anticipation members. Adrienne Foster has arranged a Ghost Walk of Old Montréal that doesn’t have a schedule conflict with the Masquerade.

Post Worldcon Tour with the Ontells

Canadian Maritimes and Québec City, August 10 - 23, 2009

Val and Ron Ontell, who ran tours of Britain, Ireland, Australia, and Japan after previous Worldcons, are organizing a trip to the Canadian Maritime Provinces and Québec City in conjunction with Anticipation.  Scheduled to run from August 10 (after the con) through August 23, the tour will include Quebéc City, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia.

Among the sights included are Montmorency Falls, Kings Landing Historic Settlement, the St. Stephen Chocolate Museum, Campobello Island, Fundy National Park, the Summerside College of Piping, Cap-Egmont’s bottle houses, Green Gables House, the Alexander Graham Bell Museum, the Fortress of Louisbourg, Sherbrooke Village, Peggy’s Cove, the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, and the Alexander Keith Brewery.

A lobster dinner is among the five dinners and thirteen breakfasts included in the trip.  Minor changes to the itinerary are possible until the tour is a “go.”

The core tour will cost US$2685.  A Single Supplement will be US$639.

Included in the price are:

  • Superior tourist-class hotels, applicable taxes, service charges, state and local taxes, tips to baggage porters and hotel staff.
  • 13 breakfasts and 5 dinners.
  • Sightseeing in an air-conditioned motorcoach with local guides where applicable.
  • Group airport transfer on arrival and departure.
  • Professional tour director throughout.

Not included are:

  • AIR FARE, airport taxes (where applicable), excess baggage.
  • Meals not included in the itinerary.
  • Personal items and souvenirs.
  • Tips to motorcoach driver, tour director, and local guides.

Currently, Montréal is not included, as many fans prefer to see it on their own during the con.

Ghost Walk of Old Montréal

One of my favorite things to do when I travel is take the local ghost walking tour. I enjoy ghost folklore and history and it’s an excellent way to gain a different perspective about the city I’m visiting. A ghost walk is offered in Montréal and I’d like to invite other members of Anticipation to join me. I’ve arranged a special day and rate with Old Montréal Ghosts for Anticipation members.

Spirits and ghosts haunt the precinct of Old Montreal…their memories filled with legends, criminal intrigue, mysteries and hidden secrets. In the west of Old Montréal, they make you shiver with new stories and legends. Exploring the macabre side of Old Montréal will bring on goosebumps for sure…

An English-speaking tour has been arranged for Anticipation attendees. The meeting point for the tour will be at Place d’Armes, which is located within walking distance from the Delta Centre-Ville and Palais des Congrès (see map). This is a walking tour, so be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress as warmly as you require.

This tour regularly operates on Wednesday and Saturday nights, but neither night is particularly convenient for Anticipation members (at least, not for those who want to attend the masquerade). This special group rate allows a $2 discount.

When: 7:30 p.m., Friday, August 7 (lasts about 90 minutes)
Where: Place d’Armes
Fees: $19.50 Canadian

To reserve a place, please go to the Bay Area Ghost Hunters calendar page, to rsvp. Your receipt will be your ticket. (You will have to join BAGH to rsvp, but there is no fee to do so.)

I look forward to meeting other Anticipation members there!
